video we're going to be talking about

the food pyramid this video was

requested by a subscriber so thank you

very much for your suggestion I'm gonna

be talking about the food pyramid which

is an organization of foods based on the

health benefits of eating them and it

recommends foods which you should be

prioritizing on which you should be

limiting so the base of the pyramid is

the foundation so that is what you

should be basing your diet on and that

includes vegetables salads and fruits

going up we have wholemeal cereals

breads potatoes pasta rice then we have

milk yogurt cheese above that we have

meat poultry fish and eggs then we have

fat spreads and oils and the tip of the

pyramid includes foods and drinks which

are high in fat sugar and salt so with

the food pyramid that you can see the

foods at the base in general are more

micronutrient dense so they contain a

lot of vitamins minerals and

antioxidants which would benefit the

physiological functioning of your body

the foods at the higher end although

they don't contain as much

micronutrients they do contain greater

amounts of calories however if you live

quite a sedentary lifestyle eating only

the higher end of the pyramid may result

in weight gain if you are eating an

excessive amount of calories but that

would be a lot easier because these

foods are quite calorie dense so just to

end the video and as a brief summary the

food pyramid is not to alienate certain

food groups it's just to prioritize the

foods which are at the base of the

pyramid and it's those foods which you

should be eating greater servings of the

foods at the higher end of the pyramid

you shouldn't eliminate them but you

should limit the quantities which you

eat and that's because the foods at the

higher end of the pyramid are associated

more with various diseases such as heart

disease and that's largely due to the

fact that they have greater amounts of

saturated fat and cholesterol compared

to the foods at the base of the pyramid

so you should limit the quantities of

these and in general have a balanced

diet whilst focusing on

the base of the pyramid
