Why is My Tongue Burning? | This Morning

let's talk to Sula she's on the phone oh

hi Sula had it terribly sore throat for

months tongue is very sore oh it's as if

it's burnt every time she eats it stings

a stomach also hurts and feels bloated

and she feels sick and she's had a

colonoscopy gasps drops Coupee camera

down nose check out throat questions

about the tongue itself when you look at

your tongue in the mirror do you see

anything yeah there's a white coating

there's patches on it and if you look

really really closely this tiny red dots

okay I know it's been a long time you

know in medicine common things are

common and common things that cause

cause I saw some are things like thrush

infection and I know you've tried some

oral medication for that and you haven't

tried the tablets for that so one thing

to try with the tablet especially

because there's a white coating but I

just wonder in your case if this is a

rare condition that we call burning

mouth syndrome and we've talked about

this actually on the show before yeah

and the fact that you say burning

feeling is is the clue there and this is

a problem is the nerve that there's no

damage there's nothing to worry about

but the nerves that supply the sensitive

area especially the tip of the tongue

are firing off when they shouldn't be so

you're feeling this pain there's nothing

going on there

but the symptoms themselves are really

worrying and I know when you have pain

for a long time you worry about what the

cause of it is as well so I think next

steps for you back to your GP have a

think about this an MRI scan would rule

out anything terrible and try some

treatments to try and suppress the nerve

activity okay but there's something you

can do there's something you can do is
